FAQ

Questions we hear before an engagement starts. If your question isn't answered here, the fastest path is a diagnostic conversation, not more reading. Get in touch and we'll answer it directly.

01

What Verbeter is

What is Verbeter?

Verbeter is an AI-augmented business improvement practice for manufacturing and distribution businesses. It combines structured improvement methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, systems thinking) with AI-assisted delivery. Verbeter is Pretoria and George based, co-founded by Cor Schutte and Danie Grobbelaar, and part of the Intak group.

What does Verbeter do?

Verbeter runs structured business improvement engagements for manufacturing and distribution operations: throughput improvement, waste reduction, yield improvement, and operational flow. AI-augmented diagnostics, pattern recognition, and reporting accelerate delivery, but the methodology structures and guides the work. The client's own team does the work and keeps the capability once the engagement ends.

What doesn't Verbeter do?

Verbeter is not a software vendor, not an ERP implementer, and not a general management consultancy. It does not sell licences, run one-off projects, or position AI as a technology initiative for its own sake. It does not run engagements where the client will not involve their own team.

How is Verbeter different from a management consultancy or an ERP implementer?

An ERP implementer changes the system; it doesn't change the processes that produce the data the system records. A generalist consultancy proposes recommendations; Verbeter's diagnostic comes before any recommendation, not after, because different operations produce similar-looking symptoms from different root causes. Verbeter's methodology comes first, the client's team does the work, and Verbeter says what it sees.

Who does Verbeter work with?

Managing Directors, Operations Directors, and CFOs at medium-to-large manufacturing and distribution businesses. Typically operations with mature ERP implementations (SAP, SYSPRO, or similar) that are seeking the next layer of improvement, and that have strong processes but have not yet systematically applied AI to accelerate improvement.

02

The methodology

What is Verbeter's methodology?

Three sequenced phases, in order: diagnose first (identify the constraint and the lever), improve next (structured intervention with AI-augmented delivery), and leave capability behind (the client's team owns the improvement after the engagement closes). AI accelerates each phase but does not replace the structured methodology that precedes it.

What does the diagnostic process involve?

Understanding what the operation is actually trying to solve, why the problem exists, and whether there's enough measurement in place to establish a meaningful baseline. Different operations produce similar-looking symptoms from different root causes, so the diagnostic comes before any recommendation, not after.

How do you know an improvement engagement is working?

The test is whether the operation is running measurably better twelve months after Verbeter leaves than it was when the engagement started. Not because Verbeter is still involved, but because the operation developed the capability to identify problems and address them itself. An engagement designed to change how the operation works is structured improvement; one that only produces reports or recommendations is a project.

Working together

How does an engagement start?

Every Verbeter engagement begins with a structured diagnostic, before anything else, with no commitment required beyond that first assessment. Get in touch and you will get a real reply, from a real person, within two working days.

Who's involved from our side?

Verbeter's methodology comes first, but your team does the work. Verbeter structures and guides the engagement; your people carry out the improvement and keep the capability once the engagement ends.

How do I know if my operation is ready for structured improvement?

Two practical tests: is there enough measurement in place to establish a meaningful baseline, and is there leadership commitment to sustaining the changes after the initial programme ends? If either is uncertain, that is a useful starting point for a diagnostic conversation.

04

AI specifically

What does "AI-augmented" mean at Verbeter?

AI accelerates diagnostics, pattern recognition, and reporting inside the structured methodology, it does not replace it. For a mid-market ERP user this typically looks like a decision layer on top of the ERP that reads existing transactional data to surface patterns and recommendations, while the ERP stays the system of record.

What are the four conditions of AI readiness?

A measurement foundation (you can reliably state current performance on the metrics that matter), process documentation (processes exist and are followed consistently enough to produce stable outputs), data quality (operational data is entered consistently across shifts and systems with no structural gaps), and improvement culture (when a problem is identified there is a defined process for addressing it with a clear owner and follow-through). All four need to be in place before AI-augmented improvement reliably delivers results.
